Breakwater Repairs on East Side of Panggang Island Accelerated

The Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) is repairing a collapsed breakwater in the waters on the east side of Panggang Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district.

Seribu Islands SDA Sub-agency Head, Hendri stated the breakwater collapsed after being hit with high waves a few days ago.
"The waves easily hit the breakwater considering it is still the east wind season," he expressed, Tuesday (5/21).

"We send ten PPSU personnel to repair the breakwater along 25 meters," he explained.
He went on to say that it has been ongoing since May 15, 2024, and the work progress has touched 50 percent. If it goes well, it will be completed next week.
"This is one of the government's efforts to maintain the resilience of coastal areas to climate change and natural disasters. We're always ready to face extreme weather conditions that occur," he explained.
The work received appreciation from the Panggang Island Urban Village Head, Muhammad Fakih Burhanudin.
He hoped that the land of Panggang Island would be better protected from the threat of abrasion and damage caused by high waves.
"This repair is a must, to maintain the safety of residents and infrastructure on Panggang Island. Residents are expected to remain alert and follow information from the authorities while the repair is in progress," he stated,
